The Five Finger Rule

We have all had that student who is always selecting books that are way too hard for him or her to read. The quick and easy way to prevent this from happening, and prevent frustration for you and the student, is to teach the Five Finger Rule. The rule simply tells the reader to pick a random page in a book of his or her choosing and raise one finger for every unknown word encountered while reading the page. If one finger is raised at the end of the page, the book is too easy. If four or five fingers (or more :D)are raised at the end of the page, the book is too hard! We're shooting for only three fingers raised after reading the selection to ensure a good fit between the reader and the book. Visit my TPT store and snag my FREE "Five Finger Rule Poster". Enjoy!
